Size: 13 X 13 CM Product Information This stunning multi purpose container is hand carved, from Kisii soap stone. Kisii soapstone is mined by hand from quarries in Western Kenya. Carvers cut the large rocks into smaller pieces, then chisel a rough shape into the stone. Women then sandwash the stone pieces and polish them. The stone carvers of Kisii are one of many craft groups working alongside Trade Aid’s partner, Undugu Fair Trade. Who made this? Kenyan artisans access new markets and create a sustainable living from crafting high quality products by working with Undugu, a social enterprise that empowers lives through trade. ‘Undugu’ is a Kiswahili word meaning brotherhood and solidarity, and the organisation supports innovation, research and development for artisans enabling them to fulfil their aspirations.
